About Me

I started writing, I mean seriously writing, when I graduated from college. I was a lost puppy, looking for my place in the world, and poetry helped me navigate the rocky journey of coming out. I integrated my poetry with my love of live theatre and shifted toward playwrighting

I have always made my living, though, in human services, and over the last 45 years, I have had the honor to bear witness to an enormous range of the human experience. I worked with both children and adults: blind and deaf, mentally disabled, and orphaned. In 1998, my teaching came into its own when I started teaching people to be teachers.

Writing is my passion and my anchor, but It is here, in teaching, that I have gained my greatest confidence in the world.

And all the while, I have maintained a love for animals and the environment. My mom raised us on the teachings of Rachel Carson, and the words of Silent Spring have never lost their truth.

I live in Cambridge with my two dogs, rescues from the streets of Puerto Rico, and my life partner of 27 years. I teach playwrighting with TC Squared theater company.

Whalesong

Sing awe for the flesh that fountains these waters

Sing awe for the comfort of seas

Sing labor for birthing a beautiful whale

Sing as a whale sings of seas
